COMING SOON: LENT 2020 Ash Wednesday is a week come Wednesday, 26th February, so I am giving you notice of this in advance so that you can begin to think about it. Mass in the parish that day will be at 10.00.a.m.
FILMS DURING LENT Once again this year the plan is to show films during Lent which, without being in any way ‘holy’ or ‘pious’, do present us with topics which are an invitation to reflect on themes which affect our lives and the life of society in a whole variety of ways. The first of these films is next Sunday at 6.30.p.m. and there will be a film each Sundays of Lent, ending on Palm Sunday. Next week’s offering is The Wild Rose, in which a Scottish woman, fresh out of prison, juggles her job and two children while pursuing her dream of becoming a country music star. She soon gets her chanve when she travels to Nashville on a life-changing journey to discover her true voice.
MEETING FOR PARENTS A number of parents were unable to attend the meeting last Tuesday and sent in apologies instead. So we will have a second meeting on Tuesday 25th in the house at 8.00.p.m. Hopefully a larger number of parents will be able to attend on this new date.
A MEETING WITH THE BISHOP I met with Bishop Nolan last Tuesday in the flat in Largs where we had quite a full conversation about both my own future and the future of the parish. I had sent him a copy of the ideas I had put before you last Sunday in the homily about possible uses of the parish house, and he was very happy with them. As I explained last week, we will have an open meeting THIS COMING THURSDAY AT 7.00.P.M. when we will have the opportunity to discuss any matters you want to raise about what will happen after my retirement, and once we have had that, the Bishop himself will come to meet the parish at a date not yet decided. He said he would let me know as soon as he can.
BOYS BRIGADE DAFFODIL TEA This annual event in the village is being held in the lower hall of the Parish Church on Saturday 19th February from 10.00.a.m. to 12. Noon. The cost is £2.50. for adults and £1 for children which includes fresh baked scone, tea and coffee. The money raised is going towards an adventure weekend with PGL in Dalguise, Perthshire planned for May with children of P6/7 age. I am sure many of you will support this event.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER The West Kilbride part of this will take place here in St Bride’s on Friday, March 6th at 2.00.p.m. This is still a few weeks away, but emails have already been sent out to those who normally help seeking their support again this year. But there may be other people who would like to help but who are not on the mailing list. So if you fall into this category, please let Betty Orr or one of the other regulars know. It is always a pleasant event.
HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE 2020 From October 12th this year, for seven nights, there will be another Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The cost per person, sharing, will be £1,545. This will include four nights in Bethlehem and three nights in Tiberias. Return flights will be fron Manchester and if you are interested in being part of this, please contact Joe Walsh Tours on 0141 530 5060. There is a poster in the porch and I have some booking forms.
A DAY OF PRAYER This is for victims and survivors of abuse and takes place throughout Scotland on Fridays 28th February. There are links to online resources on the diocesan website and I encourage you to make use of them.
