MEETING FOR PARENTS  After weeks in the bulletin, this meeting has now arrived and will take place at 8.00.p.m. in the house on TUESDAY. If you are a parent of  a child or young person, please make an effort to come along. We have achieved a lot over the last few years, but must keep building on what we have achieved. In particular, it will be important after June, when there is no resident priest, that the meetings are kept going without me having to call them.

A MEETING WITH THE BISHOP  Bishop Nolan would like to have a meeting with the parish about the change that will take place in June. The date of this meeting has not been fixed yet, but, in preparation for it, we will have a meeting ourselves to talk through some of the things we might want to say to or ask him when he comes. This first meeting will be at 7.00.p.m. on Thursday 20th February and I hope many of you will attend.

THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION  I think both the children and their families enjoyed the service in St Peter’s on Tuesday. Sixty children from West Kilbride, Largs, Kilbirnie, Beith, Dalry and Ardrossan were confirmed by the bishop in a church full of parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters. Thank you to the parishioners who came along to support Ivor, Manus and Nikolas. We will present them with Certificates of Confirmation this weekend.

DIOCESE OF GALLOWAY: INDEPENDENT AUDIT  An independent audit of the Diocese of Galloway Safeguarding Procedures was carried out last year by the SCIE (Social Care Institute for Excellence) and their report is on the diocesan website. www.gallowaydiocese.org.uk  The diocesan adviser, Gerry McCabe, is praised in the report for his commitment and the quality of his work. Gerry is a volunteer, as are our own Laura McLean and Fran McCann, and we are grateful to all of them. Perhaps some of you will take the time to read the report on the website.

DIOCESAN MASS FOR THE SICK  The Diocesan World Day of Prayer for the Sick Mass will be held THIS Sunday, afternoon at 4.00.p.m. in St Margaret’s Cathedral, Ayr. The Hospitalite looks forward to welcoming you. Those who wish to receive the Sacramnet of the Sick should make themselves known to a member of the hospitalite team on the day.  Mass will be followed by refreshments in the hall and by the AGM of the Galloway Lourdes Hospitalite

CAN YOU HELP?  I had a phone call during the week from a man who is trying to trace relatives who lived here some years ago. He spoke in particular about his aunt, Elizabeth (Betty) Mallon, whose funeral he remembers attending in St Bride’s fifty years ago. Do any of you remember her or any other member of the family? Please let me know as soon as possible if you do. I promised I would phone him back this week.

A NOTE FROM OUR INSURERS  I regularly receive guidance from the Insurers about the need to be careful with the way we use candles. Our current arrangements seem to be acceptable, but can I please emphasize the importance of not leaving the matches lying with the candles? The church is open during the week, so it is not a good idea to have matches lying around. These should always be taken from and put back in the sacristy.

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER  The West Kilbride part of this will take place here in St Bride’s on Friday, March 6th at 2.00.p.m. This is still a few weeks away, but emails have already been sent out to those who normally help seeking their support again this year. But there may be other people who would like to help but who are not on the mailing list. So if you fall into this category, please let Betty Orr or one of the other regulars know. It is always a pleasant event.

HOLY LAND PILGRIMAGE 2020  From October 12th this year, for seven nights, there will be another Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Holy Land. The cost per person, sharing, will be £1,545. This will include four nights in Bethlehem and three nights in Tiberias. Return flights will be fron Manchester and if you are interested in being part of this, please contact Joe Walsh Tours on 0141 530 5060. There is a poster in the porch and I have some booking forms.

A DAY OF PRAYER  This is for victims and survivors of abuse and takes place throughout Scotland on Fridays 28th January. There are links to online resources on the diocesan website and I encourage you to make use of them.
